Clive Cussler Books in Order
Clive Cussler (1931-2020) was an American adventure novelist and underwater explorer who became one of the world's most successful thriller writers. Born in Aurora, Illinois, and raised in Alhambra, California, Cussler served in the Air Force during the Korean War before working in advertising as a copywriter and creative director. He achieved literary fame with his 1973 novel "Raise the Titanic!" which introduced his most famous character, Dirk Pitt, a marine engineer and adventurer who appeared in over twenty novels. Cussler's books, known for their blend of maritime history, cutting-edge technology, and non-stop action, sold more than 100 million copies worldwide and were translated into over 40 languages. Beyond his writing career, Cussler was a genuine maritime explorer who founded the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving maritime heritage through the discovery and conservation of shipwreck artifacts. Through NUMA, he participated in over sixty expeditions and was credited with finding more than sixty historically significant underwater wreck sites, including the Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley and the ship that inspired his novel "Raise the Titanic!" His success allowed him to amass an impressive collection of over 100 classic automobiles, which were often featured in his novels. Cussler continued writing prolifically until his death in 2020, often collaborating with other authors including his son Dirk Cussler, ensuring his adventure series would continue beyond his lifetime.
