Freida McFadden Books in Order
Freida McFadden is the pseudonym of a #1 New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Amazon Charts bestselling author of psychological thrillers. She is also a practicing physician specializing in brain injury.
Born on May 1, 1980, McFadden grew up in midtown Manhattan. Her parents both worked in medicine—her father as a psychiatrist and her mother as a podiatrist. From an early age, she knew she wanted to become a physician, but she also harbored a passion for writing, completing her first novel at age 11.
McFadden studied mathematics at Harvard University before attending medical school. While pursuing her medical career, she continued writing fiction and submitting manuscripts to publishers. Her pseudonym comes from FREIDA, the Fellowship and Residency Electronic Interactive Database used by medical residents.
After self-publishing her first novel in 2013, McFadden broke into the mainstream with The Ex in 2019. Her 2022 novel The Housemaid became an international bestseller and won the 2023 International Thriller Writers Award for Best Paperback Original Novel. The sequel, The Housemaid's Secret, won the 2023 Goodreads Choice Award for Best Mystery & Thriller.
Her work has been selected as one of Amazon Editors' best books of the year, and her novels have been translated into 40 languages. The Housemaid was adapted into a major motion picture by Lionsgate, directed by Paul Feig and starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. As her author career expanded, McFadden reduced her clinical practice to part-time, working 1-2 days per week.
