Karin Slaughter is one of the world's most successful crime thriller authors, with over 40 million copies of her books sold in 120 countries and 37 languages. Born in 1971 in a small southern Georgia town, Slaughter grew up in a working-class family where she developed her distinctive voice for Southern noir. She worked various jobs including signing for the hearing impaired and selling cars before dedicating herself to writing full-time, crafting her debut novel Blindsighted on nights and weekends. The book launched her Grant County series in 2001, immediately establishing her reputation for unflinching crime fiction that doesn't shy away from depicting violence and its aftermath with brutal honesty.
