Michael Connelly is an American crime fiction author best known for creating the Harry Bosch detective series. Born in 1956 in Philadelphia, he moved to Florida as a child and later studied journalism at the University of Florida. Before becoming a novelist, he worked as a crime reporter for newspapers including the Los Angeles Times, covering the police beat and criminal courts. His breakthrough came with "The Black Echo" (1992), which introduced LAPD detective Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch and won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel. Connelly has since written over 30 novels, many featuring Bosch, who has appeared in more than 20 books. He also created defense attorney Mickey Haller (introduced in "The Lincoln Lawyer"), who shares the same fictional universe as Bosch. Connelly's work is known for its authentic portrayal of Los Angeles and police procedure, drawing from his journalism background. His books have been translated into 40 languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide. Several have been adapted for film and television, including the Amazon Prime series "Bosch" and its spinoff "Bosch: Legacy," as well as Netflix's "The Lincoln Lawyer" series. He continues to be one of the most successful crime writers working today, regularly topping bestseller lists with each new release.
