Suzanne Collins Books in Order
Suzanne Collins (born August 10, 1962) is an American author and television writer, best known for The Hunger Games trilogy that has sold over 100 million copies worldwide and spawned a blockbuster film franchise. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Collins is the daughter of a U.S. Air Force officer who served in the Vietnam War. As a military child, she moved frequently, living across the eastern United States and in Brussels, Belgium. This upbringing, with her father's stories about war and its consequences, profoundly shaped her writing. Collins graduated from Indiana University with a double major in drama and telecommunications. She began her career in 1991 writing for children's television, working on Nickelodeon shows including the Emmy-nominated Clarissa Explains It All, The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo, Little Bear, and Oswald. She later became Head Writer for Clifford's Puppy Days. Her transition to books came through a friendship with author James Proimos. Her first series, The Underland Chronicles (2003-2007), drew inspiration from Alice in Wonderland. The Hunger Games emerged while channel-surfing late one night—Collins noticed how reality TV and Iraq War coverage blurred together on screen. Combined with her childhood fascination with the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, this sparked the dystopian world of Panem. The Hunger Games (2008) spent over 60 weeks on The New York Times Best Seller list. In 2010, Time magazine named Collins one of the world's most influential people. By 2012, she became the best-selling Kindle author of all time. She wrote the screenplay for the first Hunger Games film herself. Collins lives in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, with her husband Cap Pryor, whom she met at Indiana University, and their two children. She maintains no social media presence, preferring privacy to public life.
