Veronica Roth Books in Order
Veronica Roth is an American author best known for her bestselling Divergent trilogy, a dystopian science-fiction series for young adults that has sold more than 35 million copies worldwide. Born on August 19, 1988, in New York City, she was raised primarily in Barrington, Illinois, in a family with German and Polish heritage.
Roth discovered her passion for writing at a young age and pursued it academically at Northwestern University, where she studied creative writing. It was during winter break of her senior year that she wrote the first draft of "Divergent," the novel that would launch her career. She found a literary agent by the following March, and before she even graduated in 2010, she had sold the publishing rights to HarperCollins.
"Divergent" debuted in April 2011 at number six on the New York Times bestseller list, introducing readers to a postapocalyptic Chicago where society is divided into five factions based on virtues. The sequel "Insurgent" (2012) captured the number one spot on the list, and "Allegiant" (2013) became the most-preordered book in HarperCollins history. The trilogy was adapted into a successful film franchise starring Shailene Woodley.
Beyond Divergent, Roth has written the Carve the Mark duology (2017-2018), another young adult science fiction series, and "Chosen Ones" (2020), her first novel for adults. Her work is known for its exploration of identity, choice, and the complexity of human nature.
Roth married Nelson Fitch in 2011 and they reside in the Chicago area. Her rapid rise from college student to bestselling author has made her an inspiration to aspiring writers, and she continues to be an influential voice in young adult literature.
